“A massive, psych-heavy, art-damaged five-piece, and one of the most inspired new bands we’ve heard in quite a while.” – Pitchfork, 9.2<P>
“Microcastle could be 4AD’s best release in well over a decade.” – MOJO

“Mr. Cox sings about time, perception, crucifixion and murder, while the band maintains its gift for realizing just how far a small idea can be carried through repetition and accretion.” – New York Times

“Microcastle’s counterintuitive sequencing turns out to be a coup as the band pass through Sonic Youth/Galaxie 500 noise-pop, lose themselves in a wintry ambient blur, and emerge, emboldened, with Nothing Ever Happened’s astonishing motorik wig-out, one of the finest songs of the year.” – The Guardian, 4/5

“Deerhunter weave ethereal, wraithlike songs that touch the heights of Flaming Lips, Pavement and My Bloody Valentine.” – Time Out

New to 4AD, Atlanta-based Deerhunter are one of the most exciting new bands around and with their stunning new album, Microcastle, are finally releasing music beyond just their home-land. ??Released in October 2008, Microcastle – the follow-up to 2006’s critically lauded Cryptograms – was recorded over the course of a week at the Rare Book Studios in Brooklyn, with Nicolas Verhes and has ended up top of many “Album of the Year” lists.

Deerhunter began in 2001 with the ambition of fusing the lulling hypnotic states induced by ambient and minimalist music with the klang and propulsion of garage rock. The band has weathered chaotic line-up changes, the death of a member, and much discouragement. Their live performances almost always leave audiences polarized.

In addition to Microcastle, the band added Weird Era Cont., a bonus disc of brand new material. An album in it’s own right, the band wanted Weird Era Cont. to appear with little fanfare and as a surprise on release day. It’s more than just bonus material though; it’s also further proof of this band’s prolific and unerring ability to make timeless music.?
The band embark on a European tour this Spring and will release the track “Never Stops” in March as the next single.
